Studio Magic

Over the course of this semester, I've been experimenting with studio lights and backdrops for my editorial class. When I first signed up, I had never used a studio for a photoshoot or professional light boxes to create dimension and shadows. I was a bit daunted by the idea. I even resented the idea of being cooped up inside a cold white room, without the inspiration of the great outdoors to add to the photo shoot. I have since changed my mind.

By having no distractions, no alternative but to focus on the person in front of me, I was forced to create something completely new and foreign to me. I had to use the lights to create specific shadows on my model's face. I learned what I liked and what I didn't like. I learned that I love it when the background is dark; and I had to learn how to achieve that simply by adjusting the intensity and direction of my light source. Sometimes I failed miserably and sometimes I exceeded my expectations. Coming down to my last photo shoot, I wanted it to be everything I imagined it to be. And it was, and more.

I've fallen in love with photography again, and fallen in love with a new way of capturing life. I've expanded my horizons and I cannot wait to continue down this road.
